Experience report
Motivation, the app and the first weeks of training
A user with a swallowing pattern, teeth clenching and uneven lip movements who trains regularly with the app after a motivational talk with Dr. Berndsen. Many people who train at what we consider the causal point, breathing, swallowing and head balance, experience changes they had not expected. Here a user describes her individual case.
“I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight, but the conversation gave me trust in the process and confidence”
Dear Dr. Berndsen,
thank you once again for the informative and motivating conversation (video call). As agreed, I am getting back in touch after a few weeks.
Since that day I have kept up the training full of motivation right up to today, and I am very happy myself about how regularly I train. Yes, FaceFormer training is fun! Just as you said. 🙂 I think in my case it was purely a problem of motivation, and you helped me decisively with it through our conversation. Many heartfelt thanks for that!
Attached are screenshots from the training app (three training sessions per day). On three days there were fewer than three sessions. But I didn’t let that put me off, and of course I carried on training. It really has become much easier for me by now, so three sessions a day are no longer a hurdle. At the same time, I don’t put myself under pressure, and an opportunity to train always turns up somehow.
I think the app is great too. It makes the training structured, easy and possible to do practically anywhere. And you keep track of everything.
My results so far:
Overall, I swallow more consciously and with a more pleasant feeling. At the beginning I felt my tongue was too far back when swallowing, or had the feeling I was swallowing it down too, which I understand as a sensation caused by the incorrect function before. By now it feels completely natural to swallow calmly along the whole tongue from front to back against the palate. Sometimes during training I also have a swallowing block and can’t finish the swallow at first, and then usually have to start the swallow again.
Biting my teeth together (also during the day) has gradually improved and has now disappeared completely. Overall, the training has also made me more aware of clenching my teeth hard, so that I notice it and consciously release it.
That the lower jaw’s normal position is loose and relaxed beneath the upper jaw, without constantly biting down, was completely new to me. But it is much more comfortable that way, and I make sure to keep the normal position and not bite down constantly.
At the same time, I have also noticed that my tongue often still lies loose and limp between my teeth. I understood that at some point the tongue builds up the right tension and stays behind the teeth permanently.
My relatively strongly asymmetrical lip movements when speaking have already become much more even. My cheekbones have become more visible. The areas below the corners of my mouth already look much livelier. I am confident that the lower cheeks will also firm up, so that the transition from chin to cheeks will look more harmonious too. But something has already happened here as well.
I also wear the FaceFormer ZERO every night. It is simply very comfortable and it is still in my mouth every morning.
I am looking forward to further training and curious about further improvements.
So at this point, once again, very heartfelt thanks for this wonderful training therapy and the great product. I was convinced from the start. It was only in putting it into practice that I had this block, and our conversation really helped me a great deal, because I no longer felt alone with it and your explanations also motivated me a lot. I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight, but the conversation gave me trust in the process and confidence, which, seen that way, was not a problem with the FaceFormer but an emotional one. Thank you for taking the time to discuss concerns personally with those who train. That helped a lot.
And thank you also for your very interesting and helpful videos and for the informative articles on your website.
With warm regards, I. Z.
