The cause of Parkinson’s disease is the hitherto unexplained destruction of such brain cells, which produce the brain messenger dopamine. The resulting dopamine deficiency influences activities in the basal ganglia of the brain and cerebral cortex. Typical consequences are temporary immobility (Akinesis), muscle tremor, muscle rigidity, slowed movements (Bradykinese) and postural instability.

Entire musculoskeletal system is affected

All disorders affect the movement systems of the whole body. However, special risks are associated with the influence on the functional scope of breathing, eating, drinking and swallowing. When afflicting weaknesses develop, the affected people are not infrequently in life-threatening situations.

Stabilize life-sustaining mechanisms

FACEFORMER therapy is a method by which these functions are systematically and effectively stimulated. It trains nasal breathing and the musculature of face, mouth and throat as well as head balance and the complex functions of chewing, swallowing, voice and linguistic articulation. These life-sustaining mechanisms not only stabilize the associated functional system, but they also influence body posture and movement.

FaceFormer therapy: Stimulating cranial nerve functions

The positive effects of exercise for muscles and movement, are well known. However, there are hardly any effective training methods for the regions of the face, mouth and throat, respectively methods are lacking which are simply and effectively executable for the patient. FACEFORMER therapy primarily takes this deficit into account. Scientific studies (universities of Hamburg, Jena, Mainz, Frankfurt etc.) demonstrate the high effectiveness of the method as compared to others.

FACEFORMER training has a stimulating effect on cranial nerve functions

With the FACEFORMER therapy, however, not only vital function is trained. It exerts also a directly stimulating influence on cranial nerve functions. The extent to which they activate the formation of neurotransmitters, and possibly also the dopamine production, should be investigated differentially. At least, there is the probability that other stimuli, which act specifically on the cerebral nerves, will also stimulate electrical and biochemical reactions in the brain (such as serotonin, adrenaline, endorphins, oxytocin).

Counteract Parkinson’s disease with FACEFORMER® training

People with Parkinson’s disease should start FACEFORMER therapy early in order to counteract breathing, swallowing, voice and postural problems. This also applies in particular to those patients in whom Parkinson’s disease is diagnosed at the initial stage. Then, the goal must be to maintain the normal functions as long as possible.

FACEFORMER therapy must be performed regularly. It only requires a daily training effort of a few minutes. The resulting advantages are considerable. For those with Parkinson’s disease, there is no time limit for training. It is important to carry out the training routinely and to keep it on a regular basis. After an intensive phase of about 3-6 months, however, a daily exercise unit of about 10 minutes is sufficient.
